South African Tax Calculation Changes

Scope of Functions

As of release 4.6A, the system performs tax calculations based on new tax tables. Where possible, we have replaced these tables for you:

  • South African Tax Rates table T5W2R replaces the old table T5W2G
  • South African Tax Rebates table T5W2S replaces the old table T5W2H

Installation information

However, you must run the Tax Conversion Report to convert the following tables:

  • South African Tax Revenue Offices table T5W2P to replace the old table T5W2A
  • South African Tax Year Status table T5W2Q to replace the old table T5W2I

Effects on Customizing

Changes in procedure

To stream-line the tax calculation process, as of release 4.6A, the following tables will no longer be used by the system to calculate tax:

  • Tax Status Indicators (South Africa) - T5W2B
  • Tax Age Group Indicators (South Africa) - T5W2C
  • Tax Regions (South Africa) - T5W2E
  • RSA Tax Procedures (South Africa) - T5W2F
  • Tax status indicators ZA text - T5W2M
  • Age Indicator ZA text - T5W2N

Dependent functions

In addition to the above table changes, the system now uses the following criteria to determine if an employee will receive an additional tax rebate:

  • The system determines an employee's age by their date of birth (as entered the infotype Personal Data 0002) or their technical date of birth (as entered in the infotype Date specifications 0041).
  • Before the start of the tax year in which the employee turns 65 years of age, the system checks whether the employee has submitted an age letter (stating when he or she turns 65).

This is determined by checking if the indicator in the 'Age Letter submitted' field on the infotype Taxes SA (0149) has been selected. Note: This letter can be submitted by the emplyoyee at any time.
