Central User Administration

Scope of Functions

A system group consists of multiple R/3 Systems with multiple clients. Often, the same users are created and assigned to activity groups in each client. Central user administration is used to perform all these tasks in a central system and then distribute the data to the dependent systems in the system group.

As of Release 4.6A, central user administration includes the Global User Manager, which provides the system administrator with an overview of the users, the existing user groups, the systems in the system group, and the activity groups. The system administrator can use drag & drop to make changes in the overview. These changes take affect after being distributed to the dependent systems.

You can make assignments between the following categories:

  • Activity group - user group
  • User group - system
  • Activity group - system

In the overview, the system administrator can assign activity groups to user groups and can specify, using drag & drop, which systems are to be available for which user groups and activity groups.

For example, if the system administrator assigns a user to a user group, this user now has all the authorizations included in the user group and can log on to the systems specified in the user group.

Previously, user groups were only used to distribute user maintenance among several administrators. Users can now be assigned to one or more user groups. A user group can therefore be used to improve the distribution of user data (assignment of activity groups and specific systems to user groups) thus increasing the speed of central user administration.

In central user administration, HR-Org can be integrated in the Global User Manager.
