Upgrading from SAP AII 2.1 to 4.0 (New )

Use

The following are critical considerations if you are upgrading from SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII) 2.1 to SAP AII 4.0.

XPRAS

As of SAP AII 4.0, the following XPRAs (execute Program After upgrade) are provided to convert your existing SAP AII 2.1 data to SAP AII 4.0 compatible data.

  • /AIN/DM_XPRA_CUSTOMIZING used for SAP AII customizing data conversion
  • /AIN/DM_XPRA_EPC_UPD_FOR_OBJ used for SAP AII object data conversion
  • /AIN/DM_XPRA_EPC_UPD_FOR_AOBJ used for SAP AII action object data conversion
  • /AIN/DM_XPRA_EPC_UPD_FOR_DOC used for SAP AII document data conversion
  • /AIN/DM_XPRA_EPC_UPD_FOR_DOBJ used for SAP AII document object data conversion

Using 4.0 Activities and Rules Versus Using 2.1 Activities and Rules

We highly recommend that you begin using SAP AII 4.0 activities and rules, and discontinue using 2.1 activities and rules, immediately after you upgrade. This switch must be done in one step for all rules of each scenario; that is, for each scenario, you must assign new rules that use only 4.0 activities. These can be the SAP delivered rules or customer specific rules.

Cautions

While we do not recommend it, it is possible to continue using 2.1 activities and rules after you upgrade to 4.0 with the following strong caveats:

  • Within a business scenario such as slap & ship, or integrated outbound processing, you cannot mix the use of 2.1 activities and rules with 4.0 activities and rules.
  • Custom activities: If you have developed your own activities, they may use unreleased internal SAP function modules or access SAP database tables. Some of the function modules or tables may have changed from SAP AII 2.1 to 4.0. You must check and maybe adapt your custom developments when you upgrade to SAP AII 4.0. You also need to ensure that your custom developments are compatible with the new 4.0 activities.
  • If you modified any SAP delivered entries of table /AIN//ACTTYPEBP (IMG activity Determine Business Processes) in the SAP AII 2.1 system, you must adjust similar SAP delivered entries in the new Customizing for tables /AIN/DM_ATBP (Assign Action Type to Business Process) and /AIN/DM_ATDGR (Assign Action Type to Device Group Role) to achieve the same behavior as in SAP AII 2.1. In addition, because we introduced the document type as a new key field in Customizing for Assign Action Type to Business Process and Assign Action Type to Device Group Role, you must also maintain document type for any custom entries that you have defined.
