APO-ATP-BF: General Notes on Global ATP

Use

Changes in the Global ATP Menu

Note that the Global ATP menu has changed as of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1). Basically you will find all settings in Customizing for Global ATP in SAP Reference IMG, which you can call in SAP Easy Access via Tools Business Engineer Customizing.

You will find integrated rule maintenance and rule determination as of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1) in SAP Easy Access under Master Data Rule Maintenance.

You will find the explanation and simulation components in SAP Easy Access under Global ATP Reporting.

You will find the ATP monitors now under Environment Technical Monitors.

The product allocation reports are under Environment Product Allocations.

You will find the data exchange reports of the product allocation group and the planning area under Environment Connection.

Base Unit of Measure

Both the requirement quantities and the confirmed quantities of the availability check always refer to the base unit of measure of the products involved. In product substitution there is no conversion of the units of measure.

If the base units of measure of the products differ from each other within a substitution, severe under- or over-confirmation situations can be created when substitutions are made.

We therefore recommend that you avoid substitutions of products with different base units of quantity.

You configure the base unit of measure in the product master.

Set Quantity Lock

In order that the availability check can provide consistent results, the quantity lock must be set in the R/3 system.

The quantity lock is a necessary prerequisite for the checking group for enabling the ATP check in APO to provide consistent results. For unlocking, APO can only call from the unlock routines in the R/3 system. If the lock is not set then unlocking cannot occur in the R/3 system.

If this lock is active the material is only locked when creating or changing a sales document at the time of the availability check. It is thereby possible that several users can process the same material within different operations at the same time without blocking each other. After the availability check process the lock in the R/3 system is removed again.

In APO you should always work with temporary quantity assignments. Configure the availability check using temporary quantity assignments in Customizing for Global ATP via General Settings Maintain Global Settings for the Availability Check.

In the R/3 system set the quantity lock for the checking group in Customizing for Sales and Distribution via Basic Functions Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements Availability Check Availability Check with ATP Logic or Against Planning Define Checking Groups.

Product Allocation

Product Allocation Procedure

The product allocation procedure is normally sent from the R/3 system. The settings for the procedure are available then in APO. A location dependent procedure cannot be used since a procedure already exists for the check.

The product allocation check is not sent from the R/3 system if product allocation is switched off in the R/3 system. The ATP-based evaluation (product allocation yes/no) takes place in APO first.

In APO 1.1 no product allocation is carried out if no procedure is entered in the R/3 system.

As of APO 2.0 the procedure is read from the APO product master if product allocation in the R/3 system is switched off or if the product allocation procedure (in the R/3 material master) is missing. The location procedure is read first and then the independent one.

Requirements Class

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1) the requirements class and the schedule line type in the R/3 system can be used to decide if the procedure from the R/3 system or from APO should be used.

In the R/3 system, in Customizing for Sales and Distribution choose Basic Functions->Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements-> Availability Check->Availability Check Against Product Allocation -> Define flow according to requirement category.

In Customizing for Sales and Distribution select Basic Functions Availability Check and Transfer of Requirements Availability Check Availability Check Against Product Allocation Process flow for each schedule line category.

If product allocation in the R/3 system is switched off in the requirements class or schedule line type, the procedure from APO is used. If product allocation in the R/3 system is switched on in the requirements class and the schedule line type, then the procedure from the R/3 system is used.
