APO-ATP-RBA: New Rule Control

Use

As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), you can use a new rule control function. Using the enhancements to rule control, you can organize the evaluation of substitutions in a more precise and flexible manner. You can also exclude individual (qualifying) location products from the ATP check, or restrict the ATP check to certain locations or products.

The enhancement of the role control function includes the following elements:

  • Defining qualifying products and locations
  • Defining the combination sequence of locations and products
  • Defining the combination of the product and location list
  • Using the complement of the combination of the product and location list

You perform the settings for rule control in integrated rule maintenance. Note that the global ATP menu has changed as of Release 3.0A. You will find integrated rule maintenance in the SAP Easy Access Menu under Master Data Rule Maintenance Integrated Rule Maintenance.

Defining the Qualifying Product/Location

The qualifying product or location is used to restrict the substitution list. You can qualify an element of a substitution list (product and/or location). The relevant substitution list is then restricted to this element for the combination.

The system performs two combinations, whereby a complete substitution list is always combined with a restricted list. When we refer to a restricted substitution list, we mean a substitution list for which a qualifying element has been maintained.

You can perform the following restrictions:

  • No restriction
Standard setting; the substitution list is not restricted.
  • Input (desired product)
The substitution list is restricted to one element; that is, it contains only one entry the desired product.
  • Start (first product in the substitution list)
The substitution list is restricted to one element; that is, it contains the first element in the substitution list.

If you have set the indicator Complement, the system behaves in the following way: It restricts the substitution list to the input or start product, in other words, the substitution list contains all products with the exception of the input or start product.

This is also valid for the qualifying location.

Defining the Combination Sequence of Products and Locations

You define the sequence of the following two combinations:

  • All products of the product substitution list are combined with the locations of the restricted location substitution list (products in qualified locations)
  • All locations of the location substitution list are combined with the products of the restricted product substitution list (locations in qualified products).

Defining the Combination of Product and Location List

You define how the lists generated by the combination sequence should be combined.

The system always generates two ordered lists from location products when you apply the combination sequence to the substitution lists; for example, for the setting Locations in products, and then Products in locations, the first list consists of locations in products, while the second consists of products in locations.

  • Union quantity
Standard setting; all elements from the second list that are not contained in the first are added to the list that is generated first by the system.
  • Intersection
The system deletes all elements not in the second list from the list generated first.

Complement of Combination of Product and Location List: Yes/No

The indicator controls whether the system issues the results list or its complement.

By results list is meant the location product list generated by the system after you have performed the step Combination of the Location and Product List.

If you have set the indicator, the system issues the complement of the results list.

Conversion of Previous Rule Control to Enhanced Rule Control

Up to now, you could define the combination sequence in the following ways:

  1. Products in locations
  2. Locations for products
  3. Products/input location, then locations/input product
  4. Locations/input product, then products/input location
  5. Products in locations without an output location
  6. Locations for products without an output product

In order to achieve the results of these settings, you must now perform the settings as follows in the new rule control function:

  1. Products in locations
  • All products in qualifying locations, then locations in qualifying products

  • Qualifying product: No restriction; Qualifying location: No restriction

  • Union quantity

  • No complement

  1. Locations for products
  • All locations in qualifying products, then products in qualifying locations

  • Qualifying product: No restriction; Qualifying location: No restriction

  • Union quantity

  • No complement

  • Products/input locations, then locations/input products

  1. All products in qualifying locations, then locations in qualifying products
  • Qualifying product: Input (desired product); Qualifying location: Input (desired location)

  • Union quantity

  • No complement

  1. Locations/input products, then products/input locations
  • All locations in qualifying products, then products in qualifying locations

  • Qualifying product: Input (desired product), Qualifying location: Input (desired location)

  • Union quantity

  • No complement

  1. Products in locations, without an output location
  • All products in qualifying locations, then locations in qualifying products

  • Qualifying product: No restriction; Qualifying location: Start (first location of substitution list)

  • Union quantity

  • Complement

  1. Locations for products an output product
  • All locations in qualifying products, then products in qualifying locations

  • Qualifying product: Start (first product in the substitution list);

  1. Qualifying location: No restriction
  • Union quantity

  • Complement

You can test the effects of the new rule control in the rule evaluation function within integrated rule maintenance.

The system automatically copies existing rule controls to the new rule control.

Example

Rule Control Settings

  • Qualifying product: Input (desired product) Qualifying location: Input (desired location)
  • Combination sequence: All locations in qualifying products, then products in qualifying locations
  • Combination: Union quantity
  • Complement: No

The desired product is P3, while the desired location is L2.

The following table shows a matrix that contains all location products. The system selects the red location products according to the settings made above.

Substitution list

L4/P1 ,, L4/P2 ,,L4/P3 ,, L4/P4 ,, L4/P5,,

L3/P1 ,, L3/P2 ,,L3/P3 ,, L3/P4 ,, L3/P5,,

L2/p1,, L2/P2,, L2/P3,, L2/P4,, L2/P5

L1/P1,, L1/P2,,L1/P3,, L1/P4,, L1/P5,,

The sequence in the results list is derived from the combination sequence selected (all locations in qualifying products, then products in qualifying locations).

Results list

  1. L1/P3
  2. L2/P3
  3. L3/P3
  4. L4/P3
  5. L2/P1
  6. L2/P2
  7. L2/P4
  8. L2/P5
