APO-CA: Defining the Class System for Planning Configurable Products

Use

As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), you define the characteristic and class system on the basis of which you plan products that are either configurable or that are generally described using characteristics in the APO System in Basic Settings in APO Customizing.

You can choose between the following alternatives:

  • Planning on the Basis of the CDP Characteristics and Class System
Characteristics-dependent planning on the basis of the CDP class and characteristics system (CDP = Characteristics-Dependent Planning) supports both make-to-order production and make-to-stock production. Central functions include
  • Characteristic propagation that is defined in the Production Process Model and enables the characteristics-dependent selection of processes, components, and resources

  • Block planning

  • Consideration of characteristics during pegging

  • Planning on the Basis of the R/3 Characteristics and Class System
Characteristics-based planning on the basis of the R/3 characteristics and class system supports the make-to-order production (configured assembly) of bulk products, for example, in the automobile industry. The configuration of products is defined in the iPPE (integrated Product and Process Engineering).

Effects on System Administration

You must define the class system before creating classified master data and characteristics-dependent transactional data in the APO System.

Warning: Subsequent changes to this setting in productive operation may lead to loss of data!

The CDP setting, that is, planning with the CDP class and characteristic system is delivered as the standard setting.
