New Functions in the Product Master Data

Use

New Structure of the APO Initial Menu

The master data path has changed due to the conversion of the APO menu. You previously chose Navigation Master Data Product for the corresponding master data area in the SAP Easy Access Menu. As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), you choose Master Data Product directly in this menu.

With the exception of purely APO master data, you can now maintain master data for the different applications included in APO under Master Data. This restructuring means that mater data maintenance is no longer performed within the individual submenus of the various APO applications.

Product Master Data

Some fields have enhanced the existing tabs in the product master data area. The tab Phase-in/Phase-out control no longer exists. You can maintain the relevant data in Demand Planning; the tab Procurement is new for Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1).

Tab Administration

  • Created by: Refers to location products and specifies the name of the person who created the object
  • Changed by: Refers to location products and specifies the name of the person who last changed the object

Tab Attributes

  • Created by: Specifies the person who created the product

Changed by: Specifies the name of the person who last changed the product

  • Transportation group: The field General data has been extended by a new product grouping field. Using the transportation group, you combine products for groups with the same transportation requirements.
  • Shelf life: Here you can maintain all the necessary information regarding the shelf life of a product. The following fields cover the new subarea for the attributes in the product master:
  • Planning with shelf life

  • Shelf life

  • Maturity

  • Required minimum shelf life

  • Required maximum shelf life

  • SDP-relevance: This is a new field for labeling a product. Use the input help to select the application components from which the product should be excluded from use.

Tab Classification

You can maintain the reference product as of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1) as both cross-location and location-specific. The reference product is relevant for planning with product variants in characteristics-dependent planning (CDP). For more information, see the Release Note Planning with Product Variants.

Tab SNP1

  • Product-specific penalty costs: This has been extended by the subarea For correction demand forecast
  • Location-specific penalty costs: The already known penalty costs for products have been extended by the area Location-specific penalty costs.
The system only displays these fields for location-specific products, otherwise, you can only maintain the penalty costs referred to above.

Tab Requirements

  • Dynamic pegging: This subarea has been extended by
  • Pegging strategy

  • Alert if receipts more than

  • Dependent requirements:

  • RPM time bucket: This enables you to maintain a time bucket for the planning matrix. To do so, mark the selection button Always collective requirements to begin maintenance or to perform changes.

Tab Lot size

  • Lot size procedure (for profile):
This subarea has been extended by the following lot size procedures:
  • Periodic, planning calendar

  • Reorder point, reorder days supply

  • Date determination (for profile):
  • Safety days supply

  • Periodic procedure: Determines receipt dates

  • Available date: Defines whether the requirements date matches the availability date or whether the availability date is defined by the period factor

  • Stock data (not for profile):
  • Reorder point

Prod. storage capacity replaces the previous warehouse resource as of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1).

  • SB method: Select a method for calculating the safety stock using the input help.

Tab SNP2

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you no longer need to maintain the demand horizons and the supply horizons.

A new feature is the deployment push horizon when the safety stock is used.

Tab PP/DS

Planning for changes: Automatic planning has been extended here, and is now divided into Automatic planning immediately and Automatic planning in planning run.

Heuristic: This subarea of PP/DS data maintenance in the product master data that was already available prior to Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1) has been restructured.

Maintenance for the following elements is also new

  • Horizons:
  • Production

  • Fixing

  • Creation

  • Release

  • Plan explosion:
  • Plan explosion

  • Other:
  • Priority

  • iPPE:
  • BOM explosion date

Tab Procurement

The fields for this area were previously located on the tab GR/GI, and have been extended by the new field Penalty under sfty stk in which you can maintain the penalty costs for a shortfall in the safety stock.

Tab GR/GI

The fields Goods receipt time and Goods issue time were already available in this area prior to Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1). All other fields are new for 3.0A:

  • Shipping:
  • Loading group: Used for grouping products with the same loading requirements

  • Capacity consumption:
These fields refer to the handling or storage capacity by a product, and are used for heuristic and optimization runs.
  • Handling capacity consumption On

  • Handling capacity consumption Off

  • Storage consumption per base unit of measure

  • Confirmation configuration:

  • Quantity propagation

  • Component adjustment for confirmation

  • Remaining net duration adjustment

  • Goods issue posting:
  • Synchronous posting GI

  • Network Design:

  • Costs GR

  • Costs GI

  • Delivery time quotas

  • Time in warehouse (days)

Effects on Customizing

Defining Free Attributes

Prior to Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), this Customizing activity was referred to as Maintaining Freely-Definable Names for Attributes. This has been renamed Defining Free Attributes, and is now located in APO Customizing under Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) Master Data. This activity was previously integrated in product master data Customizing.

The column Language was deleted from the table for maintaining free attributes. It was replaced by a column in which you can set an indicator setting an attribute to active or inactive.

Maintaining a Product-Relevant Hierarchy

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you can define product-relevant hierarchies. These hierarchies are based on hierarchies (hierarchy, schema hierarchy) that have been defined in Customizing. There are two kinds of products planning products that are based on location product hierarchies, and configurable products that are based on product hierarchies. Assignment gives the hierarchies a special function, although a hierarchy here refers to hierarchies or schema hierarchies, and not, for example, to generated hierarchies.

The schema hierarchy is a new hierarchy type available as of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1). For more information, see the Release Note MD: Enhancements in the Hierarchy Master Data.
