APO-PPS-PRE: Objects in the DS Planning Board

Use

As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), the following new and changed functions are available for the selection and displaying of objects.

Performance improvement by segmenting the display period

In order to achieve better performance when calling up the DS planning board, you can divide the display period in the DS planning board into smaller time segments. When you call up the DS planning board, the system only loads those objects for the segment that lie in the visible time section of the DS planning board. The system only loads the object data for the new segments when you change the visible section of the DS planning board, for example, by scrolling or by changing the time scale. The segmentation of the display period is recommended especially for large display periods with a lot of data.

You specify the number of segments into which the display period is divided in the time profile. The duration of a segment is the number of days in the display period divided by the number of segments.

In the case of a segmented display period, you set the visible section in the DS planning board in such a way (using the functions Edit -> Visible time segment -> Starting with the first graphical object or Finishing with the last graphical object) that it starts with the first graphical object from the segments already loaded, or finishes with the last graphical object from the segments already loaded. If not all the segments in the display period have been loaded yet, it is possible that you will not reach the first or last graphical object in the display period using these functions.

Filtering the object rows in the charts

Up until now, rows were displayed in the resource, product and order chart for all resources, products and orders that were transferre d to the DS planning board. This included the objects that you had defined using the work area for the DS planning board called up directly, and for the DS planning board called up in order processing, the objects associated with the order. Using the resources, products and orders that were transferred, the system determined automatically the operations that were displayed in the rows of an operation chart.

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you can define per chart, using the planning board profile, for which of those resources, products, orders or operations no rows should be displayed. To do this, you define decision steps by which you enter as a row format N (no display) in the decision table for table rows for the objects for which no rows should be displayed. When the system finds the row format N for an object when evaluating the decision table, it does not display a row for this object. The objects transferred to the DS planning board are therefore only those objects for which rows can be displayed. You control using the decision tables for which objects rows should actually be displayed.

Note: You still specify which activities, operations or orders are displayed in the diagram section of the charts by using the decision tables for graphical objects. To filter objects in the diagram section, you define the decision table for the diagram section such that the system only finds a presentation for the activities, operations or orders that should be displayed. Objects for which the system does not find a presentation, are not displayed. However, rows for resources, products, orders and operations are also displayed in the chart when the system does not find a line format for the object in the decision table for table rows; in this case, the system uses the standard row format.

Interactively hiding objects

You can hide resources, products and orders in the DS planning board. To do this, select the object (that is, the corresponding row or graphical object) and choose Edit -> Hide object. The system removes from all of the charts the rows and the graphical objects that represent the selected object.

  • To hide a resource, select the rows with this resource in the table section of a resource chart or a resource load chart. The system hides the resource row from all the resource charts and resource load charts.
  • To hide a product, select the rows with this product in the table section of a product chart or a product stock chart. The system hides the product row from all the product charts and product stock charts.
  • To hide an order, select either:
  • A row in the table section of an order chart or an operation chart with the order, or a row with any one of the operations from the order

  • An order in the diagram section of any chart, or any one of the operations in an order

The system removes from all of the charts the rows and graphical objects that represent the order or an operation in the order.

When you update the DS planning board, the hidden objects are displayed again.

Customer-specific fields for operations and orders

You can transfer customer-specific fields for operations and orders from an R/3 system into the APO system using the plug-in Release 2000.1. You can also display these fields in the DS planning board.
