APO-PPS-PRE: Scheduling with the Detailed Scheduling (DS) Planning Board

Use

As of Release 3.0A (First Customer Shipment and Support Package 1), the following changes and new features are available:

Integration of the DS planning board in the product planning table

You can also call up the DS planning board in the product planning table. You can enter the settings for the DS planning board in Customizing for the Product planning table. For further information, see the release information Product planning table.

Working with simulation versions

Up until now, you executed simulative scheduling that was based on the planning version with which you had called up the planning board. Simulative scheduling was, however, only temporary for the duration of the current planning board session. When saving the DS planning board, you had to decide whether the simulative schedule is saved in the planning version (whereby the system merges the schedule in the current planning version with the simulative schedule), or whether the simulative schedule is rejected and the planning version remains the same. After saving, the planning board was automatically closed. It was therefore not possible to save the simulative schedule explicitly as a simulation version for the planning version, and process this simulation version again at a later point in time.

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you can either save the schedule created with the DS planning board as a simulation version or merge it into the planning version. After saving, the planning board is no longer closed automatically, so you can continue working with it. You can also call up again at any time in the area menu of the DS planning board under Simulation version, the simulation versions you saved, even after closing the planning board. You can then process them further and, as required, merge them with the planning version on whose basis you created the simulation version.

Note: Simulative scheduling with simulation versions is also possible in the production planning run. For further information, see the release information Heuristics in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling.

Calling up the planning board

Up until now, you could only select profiles with which you wanted to start the planning board in an initial screen when calling up the planning board in the variable view . The settings for the profiles could not be changed. After the initial screen, the work area appeared and you could change the selection criteria for the work area.

Up until now, there was no initial screen for calling up the planning board in views 1 to 3. Here you could only change the work area when calling up the planning board if you had not set the Skip work area indicator in the overall profile.

In Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), the initial screen has been changed. In the initial screen, there are now various tab pages for the subprofiles of the overall profile. You can change the profile settings on the tab pages for the work area and the strategy profile.

The initial screen is always displayed in the variable view when calling up the planning board. When calling up the planning board in the views 1 to 3, the initial screen is only displayed if you did not set the Skip initial screen indicator in the overall profile. The Skip work area indicator in the overall profile no longer exists.

Automatic update of the DS planning board

You can specify using the Update interval field in the detail screen in the planning board profile that the system automatically updates the DS planning board after a certain amount of time. When updating, the system executes leveling in the DS planning board between the current status of the schedule in the planning version and the simulative schedule. After the update, the leveled schedule is displayed in the DS planning board.

Note: As before, you can also start the update manually at any time in the DS planning board.

Scheduling in the display period and in the planning period

Up until now, you could deallocate operations in the DS planning board from the pre-evaluation period (time period between the start of the display period and the start of the planning period) and the post-evaluation period (time period between the end of the planning period and the end of the display period), or reschedule them from the pre-evaluation period or the post-evaluation period to the planning period.

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you can no longer change the schedule outside of the planning period. In the case of resources with setup time dependent on sequence, the system only adjusts the setup times of the setup activities in the post-evaluation period, depending on the preceding operations in the planning period. As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), only activities whose start date lies within the planning period can be rescheduled or deallocated. These activities can only as before be rescheduled to start dates that lie within the planning period; the earliest possible start date for an activity is the later of the following dates:

  • Todays date plus/minus the offset time
Todays date is defined by the current date and the current time. You shift this date into the future or the past using the offset time in the strategy profile.
  • The start of the planning period

Shifting operations between charts

You can shift activities and operations from one resource chart, operation chart, order chart or product chart into another resource chart. The system schedules the operations - if possible - at the desired position in the target chart. When you shift a deallocated operation into a resource chart, the operation is given the status of scheduled. If the source chart is a resource chart, the system automatically highlights the possible resources for scheduling in the source chart.

Ability to reschedule operations and orders manually

When you call up the DS planning board using SAP standard planning board profiles, you can no longer reschedule the following objects manually using Drag&Drop:

  • Partially confirmed operations
  • Finally confirmed operations
  • Sales orders
  • Purchasing requisitions

The Fix indicator, which is in the planning board profile in the detail screen for the graphical elements, is set for the graphical elements with which these objects are displayed.

Heuristics in the DS planning board

You can use the following new heuristics in the DS planning board:

  • Scheduling deallocated operations
  • Reducing lead time
  • Manual sequence scheduling

For further information, see the following release information:

  • Heuristics in Production Planning and Detailed Scheduling
  • Detailed Scheduling heuristics

Scheduling quality

Evaluating the scheduling quality is an important prerequisite for making decisions in the planning process and for improving scheduling. In the DS planning board called up directly, you can evaluate the current scheduling quality based on a series of freely definable key figures using the Plan Monitor. The Plan Monitor, which you call up by choosing Extras, replaces the scheduling quality window that you could previously call up under Extras. You specify the key figures in the overall profile using a key figures schema. You define the key figures schema in the area menu for Supply Chain Monitoring. For further information, see the release information for the Plan Monitor.

Note: The Plan Monitor focuses on determining the current scheduling quality and by comparing the key figures at various points in time the development of the scheduling quality in the planning process. You can execute more extensive and very flexible and detailed evaluations of APO scheduling data when you connect BW 2.0B to APO 3.0A. Here the emphasis is on analyzing data that lies one day or more in the past. In addition, if you are connected to an OLTP system for sales order processing, it is possible to execute plan/actual comparisons using BW 2.0B.

Automatic selection of alternative resources when rescheduling

Up until now, alternative resources (primary and secondary) were automatically highlighted in color in the DS planning board while you rescheduled an operation in the resource chart using Drag&Drop.

As of Release 3.0A (FCS + SP1), you can specify in the planning board profile whether the system should highlight alternative resources in color during rescheduling. You set the Highlight alternative resources indicator in the detail screen of the planning board profile, if the system has to highlight alternative resources. Only the alternative primary resources are still highlighted, not the secondary resources.

This function is relatively performance-intensive.

Changing downtimes and capacity profiles for the resources

In the DS planning board, you can go directly to the maintenance of downtimes and capacity profiles for resources by choosing Goto -> Resources.
