BOM Forecasting in Demand Planning

Scope of Functions

To do BOM forecasting in Demand Planning:

  1. Create a production process model (PPM) with usage D (BOM Demand Planning).
You create a PPM for Demand Planning manually. (You create a PPM for Supply Network Plannng either manually or by converting a PP/DS PPM that was transferred from R/3 into an SNP PPM.)
  1. Assign the PPM to the supply chain model you want to work with.
  2. Assign the version you intend to work with to this supply chain model.
  3. Create a basis planning object structure (see release note Setting Up Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning) and select DP BOMs relevant.
The characteristics 9AMATNR and 9APPMNAME are included in the basis planning object structure. You can add any other characteristics that are required.
  1. Create a planning area (see release note Setting Up Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning) and include in it a key figure for independent demand (finished product level) and a key figure for dependent demand (BOM level). In the key figure details:
    1. Set up the key figures for independent demand and dependent demand so that they are saved to liveCache time series (for more information, see the release note Saving Data in Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning.
    2. Set linked semantic codes for the two key figures; for example, set the Key figure semantic 401 for the independent demand key figure and 501 for the dependent demand key figure. Semantic code 401 is linked to 501, 402 is linked to 502, and so on. Use each semantic code only once for one key figure in a planning area. If you have more than one set of independent demand/dependent demand key figures in the planning area, use different semantic codes for each pair.
  2. Create the master data for Demand Planning, the characteristic value combinations, based on the basis planning object structure you created in step 4.
The field for the characteristic PPM is grayed out. The PPM information is not generated in this step.
  1. Add the PPM information to the DP master data by choosing the fourth option Supplement BOM information and specifying the version to which your PPMs are assigned.
The system reads all the characteristic value combinations and adds a PPM to the product combinations where a PPM exists.
  1. Initialize the planning area and the version:
    1. Choose Administration of Demand Planning and Supply Network Planning in the current settings.
    2. Click with the right mouse button on the planning area you created in step 5.
    3. Choose Create time series objects.
    4. Enter the version you assigned in step 3.
    5. Choose Enter.
  2. Design a planning book view with two grids (see release note Planning Books), grid 1 for finished products and grid 2 for material components.
  3. In design mode of interactive demand planning, set the rows of grid 2 to Output only.
  4. In interactive demand planning, plan the demand for the finished products in the top grid (grid 1). Use the Show related icon in the bottom grid (grid 2) to view the dependent demand.
  5. Release the independent demand and the dependent demand to Supply Network Planning.
