Master Data: Hierarchies

Scope of Functions

With effect from Release 2.0A, it is possible to group Master Data objects in hierarchy relationships. Consquently, products can be grouped in hierarchies of product families, and resources in resource families for example.

You can use the Master Data hierarchies to maintain relationships between existing Master Data objects. The hierarchies can have various different levels. The objects in the hierarchies contain information about the relationship between the objects.

Simulation: It is possible to define multiple object hierarchies such that an object can appear in various different hierarchies. Hierarchies are also version-dependent, and can therefore be used for What If analysis.

Hierarchies are offered in APO for the following Master Data areas:

  • Product: A product hierarchy can be defined between a product and the product family, for example.
  • Location product: It is possible to define hierarchies between location products. These can be cross-location.
  • Location: A customer hierarchy could be created in the Location Master. A customer group could consist of different customers, as individual planning is not required for each customer.
  • Resource: The same resources can be grouped in a resource group. Resources have the advantage that the can be planned individually. This means that the setup time for each resource can be set individually, the advantage therefore being that the whole resource group in the Production Process Model (PPM) can be used to carry out a rough capacity check across the entire supply chain.

Application Areas: Hierarchies can can be used in the following applications:

  • ATP
  • SNP
  • Repetitive Manufacturing

Hierarchy structures and Hierarchies are defined in Customizing.
