Short text
Flow Manufacturing: Line Design
Description
If you work in a flow or a repetitive manufacturing environment, line design will form a part of your process planning.
In line design you define processes, operations and suboperations and their sequence in the form of a rate routing.
Here, you also design the structure of your production lines. For this purpose, you subdivide the production lines into line segments and takt areas. Takt times are calculated for the takt areas to control material flow and to calculate the length of time a material spends in a processing station.
Line design also involves allocating products and components to lines and operations to line segments. It also involves assigning feeder lines to main lines and making sure that these lines are synchronized.
In Release 4.0, line design functions already available will be enhanced to suit the special requirements of a flow manufacturing environment.
This includes the following functions:
- Definition of line hierarchies
- Definition of operation networks for representing and synchronizing main and feeder lines
- Graphic assignment of operations to line segments
- Line evaluations
- Creation of master data for takt scheduling and for providing material at the production line
- Definition of takt areas on a production line
- Definition of takt times
- Graphic display of the takt occupancy and the linearity of the flow process
