Product Definition Using the Product Configurator

Description

The product reflects the activities of a BCA account. Within SAP's Bank Customer Accounts system, the product is the result of the definition of fields, features and permitted payment transaction operations. You control general processing characteristics with products, these processing characteristics being transferred to the assigned accounts.

To define products, as of release 4.02 A, SAP offers the product configurator. This facilitates the definition of the business and technical features of a product, its version creation and the layout of the functions on the screen. It also allows you to make simple enhancements regarding the addition of attributes and offers general services such as change documents.

You define a product and create accounts for this product. The products serve as a template and framework for accounts. A product can exist in several versions. An account is always linked to one version of the product. If you change a product, you can decide if you wish to save the change in the existing or in a new version. If you create a new version, the change only affects accounts created in the future, the existing ones are not affected.

The functionality of a product results from the assignment of attributes. This assignment is optional.

For a clearer overview, attributes are arranged in hierarchies. For technical reasons, the root attribute is on the first hierarchy level and the other hierarchy levels are attached to it. The root attribute has no other function.

Each attribute belongs to exactly one attribute category, the following of which are supplied:

  • Grouping attribute: Attributes of this category have no direct function. They serve primarily to build up the attribute hierarchy, to classify the attributes and to assign them to attribute groups.
  • Field: This attribute is a visible field in an account. You can assign a default value and a field modification to a field. You can assign several default values to multiple value fields.
  • Feature: Each feature attribute involves a function that you can activate by assigning the feature attribute or deactivate by not assigning it. Example: bank statement, checks
  • Matrix attribute: This attribute involves two values, the cross product of which you assign to the product. Example: Payment transaction operation. An operation consists of a transaction type and a medium. There is a certain number of transaction types (n) and a certain number of media (m). You can assign each of the possible n*m cross products to a product.

The advantage of the product configurator is that even users without profound program knowledge can easily create and change products.

Effects on Customizing

You define products in the Implementation Guide (IMG) of Bank Current Accounts by choosing Master data -> Product definition.
