You can calculate the move time for a route from your vendor to your plant using the route determination in the AFS system. The AFS route determination is based on the standard route determination with which you determine the route from your plant to your customer in SD.

The route determination process considers the transportation zones of your vendor and plant, the shipping conditions, and the transportation groups of the R/3 standard shipping. Before making settings in this IMG activity for the AFS route determination, you must have already defined transportation zones, shipping conditions, and transportation groups in Customizing for R/3 Standard Shipping.

  • Your first step is to define different routes and to specify the transportation lead time and transit time for each route.
  • For the transportation lead time, enter the number of days that are needed to arrange a transport.

  • For the transit time, enter the number of days needed to transport a material from your vendor to your goods receipt area.

  • Next, make the assignment between a transportation zone and your plant.
  • The third step is to specify the conditions under which a certain route will be determined in the AFS procurement process. To do this, assign the country and the departure zone of your vendor, a shipping condition, a transportation group, and a goods receipt area to exactly one route, which will then be determined in purchasing documents as the standard route.

You obtain various shoe styles from a vendor in Rome and agree that this vendor will normally supply your plant in Berlin by truck. If you need the shoes urgently, however, the vendor will deliver them by plane.

  • To map this scenario in the AFS system, first define the shipping conditions "Standard (01)" and "Express (02)" in addition to the transportation zones and groups in Customizing for R/3 Standard Shipping.
  • Then define two routes:
  • Route 001 for the delivery by truck; transportation lead time and transit time: 2 days each.

  • Route 002 for the delivery by plane; transportation lead time and transit time: 1 day each.

  • Assign the transportation zone 0000000001 to your plant in Berlin.
  • Specify the route determination by entering the departure zone of your vendor in Italy, the transportation group, and the transportation zone 0000000001, and by assigning different routes to them depending on the shipping condition: If the shipping condition 01 (standard) is valid, route 001 (delivery by truck) should be determined. If the shipping condition 02 (express) is valid, route 002 (delivery by plane) will be determined.
