SAP E-Book

In this IMG activity you define external location types for your backend (external) systems. These external location types are used to map backend locations to SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII) locations.

SAP AII identifies locations using a location IDcombined with a location type(for example, location ID = DALLAS; location type = PLANT). The location types distinguish between locations with the same ID, but with different functions (for example, a plant and a warehouse might have the same ID (DALLAS), but different location types -- plant versus warehouse).

When the external system sends a message to SAP AII, it sends the location information as pairs of location IDand external location type. Since SAP AII has its own location hierarchy structure, which can be different from the external system's location hierarchy, you must map the external locations to the SAP AII locations. Before you can do this mapping, you must first identify the locations and location types used in the external system.

Identify the various locations and types of locations used by your external system. Enter those values into the system.

If you are using a mySAP ERP system, you can skip this activity since we deliver the SAP location types. However, if you are integrating with a third party external system, you must specify new location types for that system.
