SAP E-Book

In this IMG activity, you maintain data profiles and assign element sets to them. Each data profile may have many element sets assigned to it.

Data profiles and element sets are used in various SAP Auto-ID Infrastructure (SAP AII) applications. For example, they determine which fields print on an RFID label, and which data you can enter when creating a document. Profile types control which applications can use this data profile. The following profile types are used:

Profile Type   Use
ID maintenance   Defines the lists of fields that are used in Input/Output Components. for Encode/Decode, Parts, UI All Components, Key for Serial Number, Mobile UI Default, and Test Client.
Document Context maintenance   Controls the list of fields available for document maintenance in various transactions
Printing label and writing EPC   Controls the list of fields that are sent out during printing or tag commissioning.
Object Context maintenance (user Data)   Controls the list of fields available for maintenance in mobile UI objects and sub-objects
Profile determination   Controls user interfaces and label printing. The element sets that are assigned to these profiles contain the list of condition tables that will determine the profiles for controlling the user interfaces and fields for label printing
Test Client

You must define element sets before you can define data profiles.

You can change the element sets assigned to the delivered data profile SAP_DOCUMENT_CONTEXT_PROFILE (profile type Document Context Maintenance). This data profile controls the fields that appear when you maintain a document.

SAP_PROFILE_DETERMINE is another SAP delivered data profile. This profile contains two element sets used for:

  • User data on the user interface (UI)
  • Tag commissioning / label printing

These two element sets contain the names of condition tables. When SAP AII determines the fields to be printed on a label it does the following:

  1. Gets all the table names from the element set used for Tag Commissioning / Label Printing
  2. Looks into each of the tables, one by one, to find a profile for the conditions (parameters and values) that SAP AII determines from the context.
  3. Gets the fields from the element set in the profile determined in the previous step.

If you want to create your own condition tables to satisfy your own business requirements, you must add the table names to the element set SAP_PROFILE_DETERMINE with the appropriate usage (User data in UI or Tag Commissioning / Label Printing).

Define Profile

  1. Select a Profile Type.
  2. Enter a Profile Name and Profile Description. New profile names must be in the customer namespace (that is, they cannot start with "S").
  3. Save the entry.

Assign Element Set

  1. Select the Element Set Usage for your profile.
  2. Enter the Element Set Name.
  3. Save the entry.

The delivered profile, SAP_PRINT_PROFILE (profile type Printing Label and Writing ID), is an example of a data profile assigned to a list of RFID printer fields.
