In this Customizing activity you define the RBD area.
The RBD area is the highest structure level of the RBD account.
You assign the target company code in the integrated accounting system, the exchange rate indicator (obsolete), the default account display currency, the standard aggregation level, and the exchange rate type (foreign currency evaluation) to the RBD area. You can also activate a simplified principle of dual control for posting RBD planned records or reversing RBD actual records.
In a second step you assign all the permitted aggregation levels with which you may create IVA accounts to the RBD area.
You want to create the RBD area "0001 SAP AG", which is assigned to FI company code "0001". The middle rate ("M") is always to be used as the exchange rate type for the foreign currency valuation in FI. When you create IVA accounts the system proposes the default account currency "euro" and the aggregation level "contract". The principle of dual control should be applied to the posting of RBD planned records and to the reversal of RBD actual records.

All three aggregation levels, "contract", "finance project", and "business partner" are to be available for the creation of RBD accounts in the RBD area "0001".
You select the entry for RBD area 0001. You then execute the activity "Assign Aggregation Level SVA to RBD Area". The system inserts three entries for contract, finance project and partner in the table.

Note
Foreign exchange rate indicator
Define the exchange rate type rather than the exchange rate indicator. The foreign exchange rate is still available for compatibility but is no longer evaluated. The exchange rate type is used instead of the exchange rate indicator for currency valuations.
The tool has been given the English name "Reserve For Bad Debts" (RBD), since this describes the functions available in more detail than the generally used term "value adjustment".
