In this IMG activity, you define the compatibility matrix. By defining compatibility groups, you specify which software components in the central system, the decentralized systems, and the mobile middleware systems are compatible with which mobile software components. The system executes the compatibility check using these compatibility groups.

You have configured the following settings:

A compatibility group has the following properties:

  • Compatibility group/description
Short and long description of the compatibility group.
  • Status
The system automatically checks the consistency of the compatibility definition and assigns an appropriate status.
  • Software component
ABAP or mobile software component that belongs to this compatibility group.
  • Original
Specifies whether this entry has been directly defined for this compatibility group (indicator is set) or whether it has been inherited from a superior group.
  • From Release/From SP/To Release/To SP
Interval for which this compatibility definition applies. The start and end of the interval each consist of a release and a patch level (SP).
An entry must have an interval start. If no interval end is specified, the entry is valid for all follow-on versions of the software component.

To create a compatibility group, choose Create and enter a short and long description. Then add the respective ABAP and mobile software components along with the version (release and patch level).

You can change an existing compatibility group. To do so, create an additional compatibility group and in the Extended Compatibility Group field, enter the compatibility group that you want to change. The compatibility groups are assigned to each other accordingly. You can now enhance or change the information on the compatibility group to be extended. The system displays three intervals for the subordinate compatibility group:

  • Left interval
Indicates the interval transferred from the superior group, if one exists.
  • Middle interval
Enter the required interval limits for separate entries or for transferred entries. The following rules apply:
  • You cannot increase the interval size of a transferred entry; you can only decrease it.

  • You can define interval gaps by specifying two entries for one software component.

  • Right interval
Specifies the interval from the change (middle interval) and that is used for the compatibility check.

Changes delivered by SAP and made to entries also delivered by SAP can be changed again, along with the intervals used for the compatibility check if necessary (right interval).
