SAP E-Book

In this Customizing activity, you can define branches. You define the characteristics that a certain branch should have here.

Each force element can be assigned to a branch. Different branches are available for the individual organizational areas.

In the SAP system, branches enable you to differentiate between various troops within an army according to task area. For example, the branch (armored cavalry, armored infantry, or paratroopers) within the branch type combat troops.

For the "Logistics" branch, you can specify a basic type, which governs whether a branch is a replenishment or a maintenance element.

The standard system already contains various predefined branches that you can use.
However, you can also change the descriptions and properties of these standard branches.

We recommend you work with the standard branches.

You can only create a new branch if the descriptions of the organizational areas have already been created. You do this by executing the Customizing activity "Define Organizational Areas”.

Check whether the standard branches meet your requirements.

If necessary, create new branches:

  1. Enter a two digit country/region key in the field Country/Region.
Note that different countries/regions can have different branches, meaning that branches are country/region-specific. When you create new branches for different countries/regions, we recommend that you use the copy function and then change the data accordingly.
  2. In the Organizational Area field, use the input help to select an organizational area.
  3. In the Branch field, enter a key for your new branch.
  4. In the Abbr. field, enter an abbreviation for your new branch.
This code can be up to eight characters long and can comprise numbers, letters, or special characters.
However, because this abbreviation is language-dependent, we recommend you use letters.
  5. In the Description field, you can enter a description for your new branch.
  6. In the Branch Type field, use the input help to select the higher-level branch type. The branch type is a supplementary way of grouping branches. You define these values under Define Branch Types.
  7. In the Basic Type field, you can subdivide the branch type (for example, as a replenishment or maintenance element).
  8. By setting the Hide indicator, you can hide a branch in standard transactions.
Hiding a branch is useful if you no longer want the branch to be used but you cannot delete it because it is still used in infotype 1950. Hidden branches cannot be processed in standard transactions. Enter the function identifier
  9. (standard: MIL-STD-2525B, Common Warfighting Symbology) In the Branch Function ID field.
