For this maximum value check, specify how many (immediate) services from a service group may exist or the maximum value that may be entered for services from a service group.

For a quantity-related rule, specify the service group and the maximum number of services permitted from this group. In addition to the maximum number of services, you can specify an upper limit for the number of services so that this rule is no longer violated if more services were entered than specified by the upper limit.
For a price-related rule, you must specify a highest value and a catalog column from which the system determines the value for the services entered.
A rule can be valid for the complete duration of a case, part of the duration of the case, a calendar year, a quarter, or a specific number of days.

This rule type (R8) supports service adjustment actions. If the corresponding indicator is set in the check procedure of this rule type, the system corrects the services in question so that this rule type is no longer violated.
For quantity-related rules, the quantity of the original services is reduced accordingly and the difference quantity is created as non-billable. If you also specified an alternative service, the system creates a corresponding billable service when the rule is violated. If the alternative service is to replace all of the services entered from the group and not merely the difference quantity, you must select R.
When a price-related rule is violated, all of the original services are set to non-billable and an alternative service may be generated. When maintaining a price-related rule with alternative service, you need not specify a highest value if the highest value is identical to the column value of the alternative service defined in the corresponding service master record. In such cases, the system automatically determines the column value of the alternative service and uses it as the highest value.

Lastly, you must enter a message type (I, W or E) for each rule. Note, however, that data cannot be saved if a type E message is generated. Service adjustment actions are only proposed if the severity of the message type is at least W.

A maximum of two services may be billed for from the MAX01 service group. If more than two services have been entered, an alternative service is billed for in their place. If, however, more than four services have been entered, the individual services can once again be billed for.

Maximum value rule

Group Max. no. UpperL. C Y Q Days Alt. Type
MAX01 2 4 X   Z W

The MAX01 service group contains the services A, B, C, D, E.

Services entered for a case:

Service Qty Billable
A 2 X
B 1 X
C 1 X
E 1 X

When the system checks this service rule, it informs you that too many services have been entered from the MAX01 service group and that service adjustment actions would produce the following result:

Service Qty Billable
A 1 X
A 1
B 1
C 1
E 1
Z 1 X

Had service D also been entered for this case, the system would not have recognized a rule violation, since the upper limit is exceeded.
