SAP E-Book

In this step, you make the settings for the Internet user. These settings apply globally within IS-M, in particular to the Internet application components (IACs) in which an Internet user can be created or changed (IAC Create Internet User, IAC Change Access Data for Internet User, IAC Subscription Sales and IAC Enter Classified Ad).

The Internet user is a means of logging a customer on to an IAC by checking their password. The Internet user is assigned to one specific business partner. The IS-M IACs also allow you to design a logon scenario where logon can take place independently of the Internet user (for example, by checking the customer's order number).

There are two different administration concepts for Internet users. The classic Internet user is maintained using transaction SU05. The Internet user is maintained using transaction SU01, where a special user is created for the customer.

The classic Internet user can be viewed as the more "streamlined" solution: here the customer number, password and validity data is stored in a single table entry. The Internet user, in contrast, is a user that references a customer. This means you can use the authorization concept for users here as well as assigning an alias that can be used as a user name in the Internet (you cannot assign a user name for the classic Internet user). Authorizations are generally checked using the reference user concept. When a user logs on to an IAC with an Internet user, the system performs a user switch so that the customer then executes the IAC with their own user after logon.

To ensure that the two concepts are compatible, the IS-M IACs only use an 8-character password. This means passwords assigned for classic Internet users can also only have a maximum of 8 characters, although the field available contains more than 8.

Manage Internet users

In this step, you determine which Internet user concept you want to use for the IACs:

  • Only use Classic Internet User (SU05) -> Choose this setting if you only want to use the classic Internet user (as you did in Releases before 4.63).
  • Only use Internet User (SU01) -> Choose this setting if you want to use the concept of the Internet user and SU05 Internet users do not exist in your system.
  • Convert Classic Internet User to Internet User -> Choose this setting if you want to use the concept of the Internet user and you have customers who are already assigned a classic Internet user. These users are then converted implicitly when the customer logs on with their classic Internet user. The customer number is used as the user name.
  • Delete Converted Internet User (SU05): Select this field if you want the system to delete the classic Internet user once it has been converted to an SU01 Internet user.

Reference user for authorizations (SU01)

If you use the Internet user, the customer executes the IACs with their own user after logon. The reference user concept is used to assign the authorizations required.

The reference user is a special user assigned a role that has the authorizations necessary for executing the IAC. If the Internet user is assigned a reference user when it is created, the Internet user "inherits" the reference user's authorizations during runtime.

We recommend that you create a reference user that is assigned the role SAP_ISM_INTERNET_CUSTOMER for the IS-M Internet application components. This role contains all the authorizations needed to execute the IS-M IACs.
