In this step, you define the multiple usage types and their attributes.

A multiple usage type controls whether or not the same ID code can be assigned to more than one media product master record.

You can specify the following for a multiple usage type:

  • whether or not more than one media product belonging to the same media product family can have the same ID code
  • whether one or more media products can have the same ID code as the media product family to which they are assigned
  • whether more than one media issue belonging to the same media product can have the same ID code
  • whether one or more media issues can have the same ID code as the media product to which they are assigned.

The rules recorded in the multiple usage type assigned to an ID code type are used when the system checks an ID code for multiple usage.

You must assign a multiple usage type to an ID code type in the Customizing settings for the ID code type.

You want to allow use of the same ID code in more than one media issue when the ID code type is 'ISSN'. However, this ID code is to match the ID code of the media product to which the issues are assigned. If this is not the case, you do not want to allow multiple usage of ID codes belonging to the type 'ISSN'.

To do this, create a new multiple usage type and select the indicator 'Same ID code in media issues and products allowed'.

Assign the new multiple usage type to the ID code type 'ISSN' in the Customizing settings for the ID code type.

If you also select the indicator 'Multiple usage of ID code in media issues allowed', the same ID code belonging to the type 'ISSN' can also be assigned to more than one media issue provided the ID code does not match that of the media product to which the issue belongs.

  1. Define the multiple usage type.
  2. Select the desired indicators to define the rules for multiple usage.

If a media product is not assigned a media product family or a media issue is not assigned a media product, the media product or issue cannot be assigned any ID codes that are already used, irrespective of the settings for the multiple usage type.
