Any 4.0B or higher Query Administration Gurus?

Hi Doreen,
when we were upgrading form 3.1H to 4.0B 3 years ago, we had the same
problems.
Therefore we decided not to use the DEV box for queries.
We create our queries direct in PROD.
This approach has additional advantages:
- when creating queries it is good to have actual data for testing,
- queries must be changed often to be flexible,
- transporting queries from DEV to PROD needs too much time.

hope this may help you
kind regards

Betreff: Any 4.0B or higher Query Administration Gurus?

We are working on an upgrade from 3.1H to 4.6C. Query Management Design has
drastically changed in 4.0B and we are now trying to figure out the best
design & Transport approach for queries. Prior to 4.0B "Standard Area
Queries" & "Global Area Queries" did not exist. There were just plain old
"queries".

Currently, we cannot successfully transport Queries from the "Standard Area
of our 4.6C DEV" to "Standard Area of our 4.6C QA"
Method 1: Copy Source SID Standard area to Target SID Standard area
We go thru the process of....
Source SID DEV (SQ02 & export) (creates change request without task-ok)
Target SID QA (STMS to import & then SQ02 import)
Everything runs properly, but when we get to the SQ02 import in the target
SID QA; the changes to the query is not there. The old version of the query
still exists in the Target SID.

The only method that we have been able to get to work is the following
procedure.
Method 2: Copy Source SID Standard area to Global Area & then to Target SID
Global area
Source SID DEV (SQ02 & copy to Global Area) - (creates change request & task
-ok)
Target SID QA (STMS to import) imports into Global area ok
The issue now is that we have two versions of the query in the target SID;
The updated one in the Global Area & the old version still in the Standard
Area

Any ideas?
