Jim/Jerry,

I think other settings are being considered also and if the change is data
related or object releated.

Our PRD client is set to Production and No changes allowed to Respository
objects in SCC4 so if I try to make an object change (no data), I get the
message not allowed because of system settings, however in SE16, I get the
message that Table Maintenance is not allowed for the table ... This appears
to go back to if the Allow table maintenance setting was turned on when the
table was created. From SE14, I can also do an Activate and Adjust Database
option with clearing the data or saving it with no problem.

Does this depend on other settings? We're on 4.6C, and when we try to go in
to maintenance mode on SE16 on our PRD system, it says that we're unable to
because of system settings.

Are we locked down more than most, or are our users potentially smarter than
we are?

Hello Jerry.

SE16 is not in any of our enduser roles used in PRD. We do allow users SE17
to display tables.

Hello everyone,

I remember sometime ago that there was a discussion on whether se16
should be locked in the production server or not. I can't remember
the outcome but just recently I found out that anyone who has access
to se16 can actually trick SAP into allowing him/her to change the
records of a table. A very dangerous situation indeed. SE16 should
therefore be locked on the production server or make sure no has
access to this transaction.

Anyone interested on how the trick works? Or does everyone knows how
it works?

Best regards,
Jerry Escobia.
