Hi, Kurt.

The program is quite rigid, but we don't need much more in our environment
at present. It would be quite easy, though, to change to program to become
a whole lot more flexible. CL is a lovely language to use, 'cos you can do
just about anything. You could make everything in the program use variables
and it wouldn't be much to allow several transport numbers as input.

We only do a handful of transports a day (few and far between) so I've
never bothered making the program any more flexible.

If you are specifically looking at using an OS command rather than the TMS,
I can experiment with the CL code and send you something more flexible if
you want?

Hi Des,

too much hard coded and it caters for one transport number only.

Hi, Berhanu.

The source for my TRANSTST program looks as follows:

PGM PARM(&REQ)

DCL &REQ *CHAR 10
DCL &CMD1 *CHAR 100
DCL &CMD2 *CHAR 100

CHGVAR &CMD1 ('IMPORT ' *CAT &REQ *CAT ' TST CLIENT900 U1')
CHGVAR &CMD2 ('ADDTOBUFFER ' *CAT &REQ *CAT ' TST')

CD '/usr/sap/trans/bin'

/* TP PARMLIST(&CMD2) */
TP PARMLIST(&CMD1)

ENDPGM

Explanation:

The &REQ parameter is the transport number. I created a command from this
CL as well.
In the &CMD1 string, I'm importing the request (&REQ) into our TST system,
client 900.
In the &CMD2 string, I'm adding the request (&REQ) to the TST buffer. This
is only required if your system setup does not automatically add requests
to the buffer.
As you can see, I have 'removed' the actual adding to the buffer in the "TP
PARMLIST(&CMD2)", since our setup does it automatically. It is a nice
functionality to have, though, provided the transports at OS are
done/managed very strictly (from a security point of view).

Hope you find this helpful...

Hi Des,
I am interested in the CL you are using to perform transports. Please send
me the source. I would like to use it if it is faster than TMS.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Jerry.

I tried setting up the TMS in our landscape and the process was relatively
straight forward. I also found, however, that doing the transports at OS
level were a lot simpler and faster. The STMS transaction creates too many
complications. I have written CL jobs to facilitate the transport process.
All I need to do at OS is use a custom command TRANSPRD or TRANSTST (to
systems PRD and TST respectively) with the transport number, e.g. TRANSPRD
DEVK915899, and the rest is done automatically. So, I undid the TMS
configuration and have continued to use the simpler OS transporting.

Let me know if you're interested in the CL's. I'll gladly send you the
source.

Hello Peter,

Thanks for your help. Actually I'm used to doing transport using tp
on the OS level. Transaction STMS is something new to me. Once again,
thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Jerry Escobia.
