Accessing files on another AS400 system throug h DDM

We have an external shipping system that is used for scanning and creating
shipping labels. The approach we used was to create a 'ZVTRACK' file in
SAP that is written to and read from by SAP. Our external system reads
and updates the same file with ODBC via client access. We use a timed
job (every 5 minutes I think) to read the ZVTRACK file in SAP looking
for records to process. We have a nightly job that reads ZVTRACK for
processed records and writes those to an audit file. This was done to
keep ZVTRACK small for performance reasons.

I know this is not your exact situation, but I would think that you would
need to have some intermediate files that both systems read, write,
and update independently of each other.
