TempStg Explosion (was: What is Temporary Storage Explanation )

Rudolf and All,

1. Who of us has this huge amount of free DASD?
We have 200GB of free DASD currently and will continue to operate with at
least this much in the future
2. How do you manage such situations?
I would like to say that we have seen large Temp storage jobs consume memory
smoothly, but most of the reporting jobs that start consuming huge amounts
of memory just blow up before we run out of DASD
3. Has your prod system already crashed with 100% system ASP?
We are three tier. The database server has never crashed, but we crash our
SB1 all the time.
4. What does SAP say to this except "reduce selected data"?
That is exactly what OSS told us last week. They did however send the RIS
reporting problems to development
5. What does IBM say - technically! I know what the salesmen say 😉
On the SB1, we finally yelled at IBM long enough, hard enough, and high
enough to get them to agree to double the DASD capacity on the box. (If
anyone else is being driving looney by an SB1 with DASD limitations, let me
know)
6. Is this an AS/400 specific effect?
Don't know.
7. Who has a good program plugged into QIBM_QWC_QStgLowAcn
to keep the prod system alive?
Hadn't thought about it until you asked the question, but I will watch the
discussion with interest.

Wow! E. coli happens!!!

That leads me to some questions for a little survey:

1. Who of us has this huge amount of free DASD?
2. How do you manage such situations?
3. Has your prod system already crashed with 100% system ASP?
4. What does SAP say to this except "reduce selected data"?
5. What does IBM say - technically! I know what the salesmen say 😉
6. Is this an AS/400 specific effect?
7. Who has a good program plugged into QIBM_QWC_QStgLowAcn
to keep the prod system alive?

Kind regards
Rudi
