Cause . . . . . : The call was answered, but the local modem did not detect an answer tone, did not detect ring back, and detected the expected dial tones. This could result from a person answering the telephone rather than the X.25 packet switching network as expected.
On some modems, this could also indicate lack of a dial tone or the X.25 packet switching network not answering or a remote modem problem.
Recovery . . . : Do one of the following.
Verify that the connection number (CNNNBR parameter) in the line description is correct.
Contact the X.25 packet switching network provider and verify that the remote modem is operating correctly.
Possible choices for replying to message . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
C -- Cancel the dial attempt to the X.25 network and all logical calls waiting for the connection. Any applications and subsystems that are waiting for an operation will be informed that the logical call has been canceled.
N -- Cancel the dial operation to the X.25 network using line &23 and attempt to complete the pending logical calls. Depending on values specified for the switched line list (SWTLINLST) and the switched line selection (SWTLINSLCT) parameters configured in each controller description, the system may choose a different line description to complete the call.
R -- Try the operation one more time when line &23 is available.
Technical description . . . . . . . . : The error log identifier is &22.
The error code is &40: V.25bis call failure, answer tone not detected.
The call failure indication (CFI) received from the modem was &46. The modem sends this CFI if the abort timer expires and the modem has not detected an answer tone, is not detecting ring back, and has detected the expected dial tones. This situation could result from a person answering the telephone rather than the X.25 packet switching network as expected.
