Cause . . . . . : The modem did not detect a dial tone when expected, or it detected a dial tone when another tone was expected. The modem may return this error for the following reasons:
The local telephone line is disconnected or not operable.
Tone dial was used on a pulse dial line.
There is a local modem cable problem.
There is a problem with the modem.
A switched network problem exists.
The connection number (CNNNBR parameter) in the controller description may not contain the correct dialing codes for your modem.
Recovery . . . : Correct the problem described previously.
Possible choices for replying to message . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
C -- Cancel.
R -- Try again one more time.
Technical description . . . . . . . . : The error log identifier is &22.
The error code is &40: V.25bis call failure, dial tone error.
The call failure indication (CFI) received from the modem was &41. The modem did not detect a dial tone when expected, or it detected a dial tone when another tone was expected.
The modem sends this CFI if the modem abort timer expires and at least one of the following occurs:
A dial tone was detected when there should not have been a dial tone.
A busy signal was not detected.
An answer tone was not detected.
A ring back signal was not detected.
This situation could indicate a local modem cable problem, a modem problem, or a network problem.
