Cause . . . . . : The name you specified contains an asterisk (*) and refers to a group or subset of objects (such as files or queries). The function for which the selection was made applies to only one object at a time. For example, on the Work with Queries display, you cannot specify option 4 (Delete) and specify ABC* in the name prompt to delete all names starting with ABC in a given library. That is, you cannot delete more than one object at a time. Recovery . . . : Remove the name in the name prompt that contains an *, then type the name of the object you want to use. Or, type a *? for a message that lists the special and non-special names allowed. Also, if F4 is available, you can leave the generic name in the prompt field and press F4 to see a list of names in the group, then select one of these. If a list of names is already shown and the display has a Subset prompt, you can specify the generic name there (in the form of ABC* or "abc*") to display a list of matching names from which to choose.
