You use this Customizing activity to create checklist groups to track your checklist items (milestones) efficiently. Checklist groups allow you to group together checklist items (milestones) of a specific area or a topic. You map checklist items (milestones) to checklist groups using the Customizing activity Map Checklist Items, Groups, and Master Project Types.

In addition to these configurations, you can link project structure objects like work breakdown structures (WBSs) or sales orders to a checklist group by using the Business Add-In BAdI: Additional Configurations in Milestone Checklists. This linking triggers the automatic creation of checklist items (milestones) in the checklist group.

Julie Armstrong, a project manager, creates the following checklist items (milestones) for the work breakdown structure element (WBSE) ABC:

  • Internal Kick-Off

  • Project Readiness

  • Project Prerequisites Set-Up

  • Customer Kick-Off

  • Customer Survey (Round 1)

  • Customer Survey (Round 2)

  • Project Execution

  • Project Completion Form Submission

  • Project Wrap-Up

To process these milestones efficiently, she groups these items as follows:

  • Planning Phase (Checklist Group: CG1)
  • Internal Kick-Off

  • Project Readiness

  • Set-Up Phase (Checklist Group: CG2)
  • Project Prerequisites Set-Up

  • Customer Kick-Off

  • Customer Survey (Round 1)

  • Execution Phase (Checklist Group: CG3)
  • Project Execution

  • Customer Survey (Round 2)

  • Closure (Checklist Group: CG4)
  • Project Completion Form Submission

  • Project Wrap-Up
