Message : CPA5873
Data on line &23 lost. Probable line or modem failure. (C G R)

Message Long Text :

Cause . . . . . : The probable causes are:
-- The quality of the line is poor.
-- The local or remote modem is failing.
-- The configuration of the local system does not match the configuration of the remote system.
-- The data that the application program received contains characters that are not valid.
Recovery . . . : Do one or more of the following:
-- Display the line description (DSPLIND command) for line &23. If the code (CODE parameter) of the line description is *ASCII, verify that the start of text in the longitudinal redundancy check (STXLRC parameter) matches the configuration of the remote system.
-- Use the Work with Configuration Status (WRKCFGSTS) command to determine which jobs are using line &23.
-- Display the device descriptions (DSPDEVD command) being used by those jobs.
Then do one of the following,
-- If the application type (APPTYPE parameter) of a device description is bisynchronous communications equivalence link (*BSCEL), and the transmit in transparent text mode (TRNSPY parameter) value of that device description or of the intersystem communications function (ICF) device entry is specified as no (*NO), verify that the remote system does not send text that contains BSC control characters.
-- If the application type of the device description is not *BSCEL, and the TRNSPY of the BSC file description or of the BSC device entry is *NO, verify that the remote system does not send text that contains BSC control characters.
Then do one of the following:
-- Type C to cancel recovery and to inform any applications that are waiting for an operation that the recovery has been canceled.
-- Type G to start the automatic communications recovery again as defined by the system communications recovery limit (CMNRCYLMT) for line &23.
-- Type R to try the operation one more time.
If the problem continues, press F14 to run problem analysis.
Possible choices for replying to message . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :
C -- Cancel
G -- Start automatic recovery again.
R -- Try again one more time.
Technical description . . . . . . . . : The error log identifier is &22. The error code is &40: The block check character (BCC) the system computed is not the same as the BCC in the data, because:
-- The line quality is poor.
-- The local or remote modem is failing.
-- The line is running in ASCII mode, and the STXLRC parameter of the line description does not match the remote configuration.
-- The application is not running in transparent mode, and the text contains an ETB, ETX, or EOT character.
