Purpose

After an installation, upgrade, or update of a software component, the situation can occur that generation errors come up. For offering an analysis option, this tool checks all found generation errors against a whitelist of known and tolerable errors.

Generation errors of runtime objects can occur because of references to objects not contained in the system. These references lead to errors. For this, it is the goal of the analysis tool to evaluate whether potential generation issues can be ignored. A software component owner has to prepare a whitelist this this which the user of the tool has to upload into the system at hand.

Integration

The implementation instructions for the analysis tool are given in SAP Note 1945315. This is independent from component DMIS et al.

SAP Note 1648747 describes the DMIS specific generation errors, as far as these are known. For this, the DMIS and DMIS_CNT specific whitelist files for the analysis tool are attached to this SAP Note.

Prerequisites

A whitelist of generation errors per software component, version, and service pack is required matching the software change that the analysis tool shall be run for. E.g. if an update has happened for software component DMIS on version 2011_1_700 from service pack 5 to service pack 6, the corresponding whitelist file for the target service pack is required.

Activities

Start the generation analysis tool via transaction CNV_LM_GEN_ANALYSIS. The tool shows a main screen where the check status and the remaining critical errors (the ones not covered by the whitelist) are presented. This screen also provides the option to upload the whitelist definition file against which the checks are run.

After a component has been brought into the system, these are the steps to run the analysis:

  1. Start transaction CNV_LM_GEN_ANALYSIS
  2. Navigate to SGEN and run an generation of the component
  3. Upload the whitelist corresponding to the installed service pack
  4. Run a new check run
