Purpose

The SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Search Query Log records data about search queries and search executions.

You can use this data to monitor and analyze the search activities triggered by users or by the system. You can, for example, evaluate which search terms the users frequently enter or if the users utilize the related actions you offer in the result list. The query log is also an important information source for SAP Support.

Integration

Prerequisites

You switched on the logging and made some data protection-relevant settings in the Query Log customizing (transaction ESH_QL_CUST).

Features

Selection

On the entry screen, you can narrow down the list of logged search executions using multiple dimensions. The following list contains additional information about the dimensions that are not self-explanatory:

  • Query Type: Technical type of the queries. Relevant for SAP Support.

  • Search Term/Query Content: User entry in the free-style search field on the search UI.

  • Keyword: Keywords that you defined for object types.

  • Queries with User Action Only: Queries submitted by users from the search UI.
This includes term-based queries and queries by selecting, for example, a category or attribute.

  • Term-Based Queries Only: Queries involving an entry in the free-style search field on the UI.

Standard Variants

Output

On the log screen, you can analyze the selected search executions. The following list contains additional information about table columns and related pushbuttons that are not self-explanatory:

  • Mode: Single query or composite query.
To expand composite queries, double-click the arrows in the column or choose the arrow pushbuttons.

  • Status: Execution successful, without response, or with errors.
To display details about an error, choose the Exception Log pushbutton.

  • Type: Method of triggering the query.
A query can be the result of different user actions on the search UI, of an automatic test, or of a reexecution in the query log. To execute a query again, choose the Execute Again pushbutton.

  • Query: Details about the content of the query.
To display a completely resolved query in the format incoming from the UI, choose the Query pushbutton. To display the resolved query in an internally translated TREX format, choose the Query (Internal) pushbutton. The TREX format is relevant for SAP Support.

  • Search Connector ID, Object Type: Connector and object type addressed by the query or sub-query.
To display more details about the scope, double-click the table cell or choose the Scopepushbutton.

  • Actions: Related actions performed by a user on a result item, for example, opening the maintenance UI for a business object.
To display details about the action, choose the User Actions pushbutton.

  • Start Index, End Index: Start and end indexes for one search UI result page.
Internal information relevant for SAP Support.

  • Hits, Total Hits: Number of result items provided for one search UI result page and number of estimated total result items.

  • Total Runtime: Runtime of the search in TREX.
Internal information relevant for SAP Support. By default, this column is hidden. To display this column, choose the Runtime Measurements pushbutton.
