Purpose

A marker is the optimized placement of all pattern pieces belonging to a component in a garment. Separate markers will be laid for various components, for example, for the shell fabric, the lining, and interlining of a jacket. This is because the geometry of these pattern pieces and the fabric widths will be very different.

The objective is to obtain the best possible fabric yield. To improve the yield, more than the pieces of one garment and size (generic article variance) will be nested in the marker. To best use the length of the cutting table as well, markers will sometimes be placed next to one another.

To be able to tell which pattern pieces belong to the same garment/size combination, they are marked as bundles.

Depending on the order quantity and size distribution, markers are planned, and the number of plies calculated.

Markers may be reused in different orders. The ply height is often unique to an order.

Marker information is either imported using an API from an external marker making system or it may be entered manually.

Integration

Prerequisites

  • The FSH_MRK (Authorization for Markers) authorization object has been checked for the following processing activities:
Processing Activity Description
01 Create or Generate
02 Change
03 Display
06 Delete

  • Number range is defined for FSH_BUND in the transaction SNRO
  • The following APIs are available for importing markers to SAP S/4HANA for fashion and vertical business:
  • FSH_API_MARKER_CREATE

  • FSH_ API_MARKER_MANAGEMENT

  • FSH_ API_MARKER_GETDETAIL

  • FSH_ API_MARKER_GETLIST

  • The naming convention must match with that of the external marker making system in which the actual markers reside.

Features

The following settings are available when maintaining markers:

  • Main fabric: This is the primary fabric of a style in a bill of material. Only one component may be the main component, and only the main component drives quantity adjustments in the orders.
  • Secondary fabric: As a main fabric has already been defined, any other components would be secondary fabric.
  • Special markers: You may define markers as special depending on their use cases.
  • Marked for deletion: As the marker information is stored in SAP S/4HANA, markers that are no longer used are flagged for deletion. They can no longer be assigned to master planned orders or master production orders.

Selection

  • To run the report, you need to enter a Marker ID and choose Execute. The system then displays the list of markers based on the selection made on the initial screen.
  • Marker information can be displayed, changed, or created manually.

  • Style and sizes are displayed under Marker Overview.

  • Style and sizes are maintained under Marker Articles.

  • On the Fabric tab, the width and length of the marker are shown. In addition, it is possible to maintain the component, that is, fabric for which the marker is valid.

  • To create marker information, you need to choose Create. This in turn enables the Append Row icon in the Marker Articles section so you can enter the marker details.

Note:

  • Only marker information is created using this functionality. Make sure that the respective markers also exist or are created on the marker making system in which the actual markers reside.

  • Marker information can only be changed if a marker has not yet been selected for use in a planned order or production order.

  • Additionally, you can convert the characteristic values into different document conversion types. For more information on how to convert characteristic values into document conversion types, see Product Assistance at Retail for Merchandise Management -> Marketing and Merchandising -> Master Data Management -> Product Taxonomy Management -> Classification -> Characteristic Values -> Characteristic Value Conversion

Standard Variants

Output

Markers are created to obtain the best possible fabric yield.

Use

  • Production Control Workbench

Choose Bundle to assign markers for master planned orders or master production orders, or combined master planned-production orders from Production Control Workbench.

  • Quantity Adjustment

In some cases, the quantity of garment or size combinations cut from a marker may not be identical with the order quantity, which then would have to be adjusted.

Example:

For the master planned order quantity below:

Marker 1: Sizes 38, 40; ply height 50

Marker 2: Sizes 36, 42; ply height 48, based on the assumption that the extra 3 pieces in size 42 could also be sold.

Here, the order quantity is adjusted per the ply height and the component quantity is then adjusted accordingly.

  • Conversion (Master planned order to master production order)

The marker assignment information is copied from the master planned order to the master production order.
