Purpose

You use this program to generate InfoObjects and an ODS object in a BW system. The objects are generated on the basis of the DataSource created by program RFTBBW_GEN_DATASOURCE.

Integration

Prerequisites

To generate BW objects, the following adjustments to the BW target system are required. Before you start the program, you need to do the following:

  1. In transaction RSAI, you need to create an InfoArea.
  2. For this InfoArea, you then create an object catalog for its characteristics. You do not select any InfoObjects. Activate the catalog.
  3. For this InfoArea, you then create an object catalog for its key figures. You do not select any InfoObjects. Activate the catalog.

Features

Selection

  • BW InfoSource System: Choose a logical system for the generation of BW objects. This system has be included in the list of logical systems, and the ALE settings for this system must exist. When the data is selected, the program refers to this system provided that a link to this system exists.
  • Extraction Structure: Enter the name of the extraction structure that was created by program RFTBBW_GEN_DATASOURCE as the basis for the generation process. Here you need to enter the name of the extraction structure that you created using program RFTBBW_GEN_DATASOURCE.
  • InfoArea: Choose an InfoArea from the BW target system.
  • Characteristic in InfoObject Catalog: Choose the object catalog for characteristics, which you created manually in the steps above. All the characteristics for a generation run are stored in this catalog.
  • Key Figure in InfoObject Catalog: Choose the object catalog for key figures, which you created manually in the steps above. All the key figures for a generation run are stored in this catalog.
  • Prefix of InfoObject: Enter a prefix for the characteristics and key figures.
  • ODS Object: Enter a name for the ODS object that is to be generated.
  • Description: Enter a description for the ODS object.

Once you have entered the parameters, the program can be started in one of three modes:

  • Create ODS: All BW objects are created anew.

  • Change ODS: All existing BW objects can be changed.

  • Prepare ODS: Only InfoObjects are created; no ODS objects are created.

Activities

Once you have started the program by selecting Create ODS, Change ODS or Prepare ODS, the system displays a list of all the InfoObjects that are based on the DataSource specified. In this list, you have the following options:

  • Entering a name for each InfoObject
  • Deciding for each InfoObject whether an InfoObject is to be created in the BW target system If an InfoObject already exists in the target system, the InfoObject should not be regenerated.
  • Deciding for each InfoObject whether it is to be added to the ODS When you use this program for the first time to generate InfoObjects, we recommend that you generate all InfoObjects, including those to which you have not assigned a prefix (field names BUKRS to XCID15).

Once you have defined the composition of an ODS object, start the program. If you choose Create ODS, all the InfoObjects selected are generated, activated, and stored in the respective InfoObject catalog. The program then creates the ODS object, and activates it. If you choose Change ODS, an existing ODS is changed. If you choose Prepare ODS, only InfoObjects are created and activated.

Once the generation process has finished, use transaction RSA1 in the target BW system to check the contents of the InfoArea you created. This should contain all the characteristics and key figures. You find the ODS object that was generated under InfoProviders.
