Purpose

The Online Import is a system status that allows the import of ABAP sources while end users continue working on the old version.

Integration

All phases of the Online Import are integrated into the lifecycle management tools. This report allows to monitor the results and to execute manual switches in case of error situations.

Prerequisites

Features

Prepare Online Import Mode: Prepares the import of the objects provided in the dialog. All objects that are to be imported must be listed here in order to be reloaded and marked for special handling by the program buffer. As soon as this action succeeds, the import of the ABAP sources can be executed.

Finish Online Import Mode: As soon as all objects are imported, the Online Import must be finished in order to switch to the new version. All user sessions started after this action will run on the new version, while old the old version fades out. Old sessions that are not affected by the Online Import become new sessions without being canceled.

Cleanup old sessions: All information about the Online Import will be removed from the program buffer. After this action remaining old user sessions will be canceled, because the old version of programs will be lost. This action must be executed before starting a new Online Import.

Reset Online Import: All information about the Online Import will be removed from the program buffer, but no user session will be canceled. A reset is only applicable in error situations, because affected sessions shall be canceled in order to ensure consistency.

Toggle local mode: When local mode is switched on, only the program buffer of the local application server will be modified. This mode is useful for testing the import of programs that are not used productively in the system.
