Purpose

You can use this report to carry out a one-time migration of your classic bills of material (BOMs) into version-controlled BOMs, which are used in SAP S/4HANA Manufacturing for production engineering and operations.

Note: The report is not intended for migrating classic BOMs (created in transactions CS01 and CS02) on a continuous basis.

Integration

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites and restrictions apply:

  • You cannot migrate multilevel BOM structures with phantom BOMs.
  • The report does not consider BOM explosion numbers for version-controlled BOMs.
  • If the BOM's header has been changed multiple times using multiple change numbers, the report only considers the first header change. However, the report does consider different change numbers with different validity dates used to insert or delete BOM items.
  • You must select the BOM usage for the new version-controlled BOM. If you run the report multiple times and select different BOM usages each time, the report does not find previously migrated BOMs. As a result, the report may convert redundant BOMs or useless data. Always use the same BOM usage for the new version-controlled BOMs.
  • A BOM with all its alternatives and time slices is either date-controlled or version-controlled. Therefore, the report migrates all alternatives together. BOM alternatives and production versions are migrated individually.

Features

The report searches for existing classic BOMs based on your selection parameters and the current system date. It migrates only classic BOMs that have not yet been migrated.

Selection

The report allows you to define the following parameters and settings:

  • Selection Parameters
Here you specify for which materials you want to convert the BOMs. If necessary, you can specify the relevant plants, MRP controllers, and production supervisors. In addition, you have to select the BOM usage of the source BOMs.
  • Migration Settings
Here you specify the BOM usage and status to be assigned to the target BOMs (that is, the new version-controlled BOMs). If you want to delete the source BOM after it has been migrated successfully, select the Delete Source BOM checkbox.
  • Control Parameters
Here you specify which change states of a date-effective source BOM are to be migrated to version-controlled BOMs.
  • Execution Mode
Here you can specify whether you want to run the report in interactive mode or automated mode.

Standard Variants

Output

The output is determined by the execution mode:

  • Interactive mode: The report outputs a table of BOMs along with their changes states (date effectivity). You also see a table listing materials with invalid BOMs. To migrate the BOMs, select all or specific rows in the table and choose Migrate_BOMs. The result of the migration is shown in one or more messages.
  • Automated mode: The report executes the migration in the background without further user input. The result of the migration is shown in one or more messages.
