Title

Purpose

RSCPINST is used to modify the I18n language configuration. The configuration consists of two parts

Active languages

This list defines all languages which are used in the system. Out of this set of languages you can define a subset of languages which can be used for logon.

Country code

The so called country code was used in non-Unicode systems to define a specific non Unicode code page for logon language English. In Unicode systems a country code is not required anymore unless you have specific requirements to external non Unicode interfaces such as RFC connections to non-Unicode systems or file transfer involving legacy files with non-Unicode encoding.

Activities

The main screen shows the active languages in a table. The column "Logon" or "Logon Language" can be used to define languages as logon language. The column "Translation" shows for each language whether translations or supplementations were imported with transaction SMLT.

Below the language list you see the country code. The default value "Unicode" should not be changed but the country code is kept in case it was defined in the past, e.g. in former non Unicode system which were converted to Unicode.

Use the "Add Language" and "Delete Language" buttons to modify the list of active languages.

The modified configuration has to be activated. The activation includes all required changes on database, the modifications of profile parameters and reset of the code page converter cache on all applications servers of the system. On activation, also the relevant translations are copied into the text table. See SAP Note 2842676 for details.

The menu "Edit -> Unused Languages" offers the option to clean up unused languages from the system language tables T002/T002T in case the standard F4 help used for language selection has too many entries. The feature is only available for language codes which are not classified in transaction SMLT. Also the set of legacy languages supported in non Unicode systems cannot be removed.

Restrictions

There can be not more than 128 logon languages.

There can be not more than 240 active languages.
