Purpose

Editing Report for ADS XDC Files

Integration

XDC files are printer descriptions in XML format that are required for printing SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe. They contain, for example, information about which printer language and printer commands are used by ADS to create print data. SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe can only be printed on devices whose SAP device type enables an XDC file to be determined. This XDC file must exist on the ADS.

This report displays two tables. The upper table can be used to assign an XDC file to an SAP device type (or remove the assignment). XDC assignments are stored in the database table TSP0B.

If a device type is used for printing and it does not yet have an XDC file, the SAP system checks which printer language is used by this device type and whether a standard XDC file is defined for this language. This assignment between printer language and standard XDC file can be specified in the lower table.

The following XDC files usually exist on the ADS for each ADS version:

-,,Printer language PCL: hppcl5e.xdc for black and white printing, hppcl5c.xdc for color printing
-,,Printer language Postscript: ps_plain.xdc
-,,PDF device type for print output: acrobat6.xdc
-,,Printer language ZPL for 203 DPI: zpl203.xdc
-,,Printer language ZPL for 300 DPI: zpl300.xdc

If no XDC file is assigned to the device type and no standard XDC file can be determined for the printer language, SAP Interactive Forms by Adobe cannot be printing using this device type.

When creating or modifying an entry, the name of the XDC file in question must be specified. If the SAP NetWeaver version of ADS is less than 7.20 SP3, the type of this XDC file must also be specified. The type specifies which printer language is used by the XDC file. You can choose F4 to display a list of possible values.

If the type of the XDC file does not match the printer language of the device type, a warning is displayed. This entry is highlighted in red in the overview.

If the SAP NetWeaver version of ADS is 7.20 SP3 or higher, a check is made to see whether the XDC file exists on the ADS. If not, a warning is displayed here too. Entries like this are highlighted in yellow in the overview.

If you want to use different XDC files for black and white printing and color printing, this is specified by selected 'Different XDC File for Color Printing'.

If this checkbox is selected, the content of 'XDC Name (Black and White)' is used for black and white printing and the content of 'XDC Name (Color)' for color printing. If this checkbox is not selected, the XDC file under 'XDC Name' is used for both color printing and black and white printing. In this case, 'XDC Name (Color)' is shown in gray in the overview table.

The properties of an output device define whether a printout is in color or in black and white. The definition of the output device in transaction SPAD includes the 'Color Printer' checkbox on the 'Output Attributes' tab. If this checkbox is selected, the XDC file is used for color printing.
