Purpose

During a Software Update Manager (SUM) run, SUM detects inactive customer objects in REPACHK* SUM phases. SUM does not continue unless the findings are resolved. Inactive versions would otherwise get lost or activated in the activation phase which is not desired. Therefore, the clean-up has to be performed.

The objects must be either activated or deleted to continue. The required changes are tracked in transport requests which must be released.

These clean-up activities can take a while as multiple developers may need to be contacted. They prolong the time needed for the SUM run.

Activities

To identify inactive objects prior to the SUM procedure, execute the 'Inactive Repository Object Search'.

The search identifies the same set of inactive customer objects that gets detected in the respective REPACHK* SUM phases. To process the inactive objects, contact the developer responsible. The inactive objects may either be activated, or the former active version can be restored by using the version management.

The search can be executed online or in the background.

  • If it is executed online, the result set is displayed in an ABAP List Viewer (ALV) Grid Control that allows sorting, filtering, and navigating by double-clicking on the respective cells. The result list can be exported into a spreadsheet via standard functionality of the ALV. The very left ALV Grid column provides a description of the main object type. You can check the tooltip of the columns in the ALV Grid Control by moving the mouse over the table header displayed in the ALV.
  • If the search is executed in the background, the result set is written into a spool list accessible via transaction SM37 which can be exported as a text file. Please note that the spool list contains only a selection of the ALV Grid columns.
  • With the respective checkbox "Post Result List also to File ...", you decide to have the result in addition written into a file.
  • Both spool list and ALV Grid feature columns with the (sub)object name and a column with the name of the main object of that (sub)object. To the left of the two columns each, the type of the respective object is stated.
  • The options "No search for additional data" and "No search for open transport requests containing the inactive objects" can be used to speed up the online execution of the report.
