Purpose

Motivation: Data to be logged shall be written performance optimized into the database during runtime. For doing so a so called RAW database table is used. Log data stored in this table can be monitored, but in a restricted way only (e.g. no search via log domain or log value is supported). Since monitoring via log domain or log value is the most important use case, the log data has to be stored in a monitoring optimized way for supporting this use case. Therefore a so called expanded database table is introduced. Log data can be replicated from the RAW table to the expanded table locally or remotely. The expanded table is the main data source for doing monitoring of RAL log data using the transaction SRALMANAGER. However you have to continuously replicate the data before you can use this data source for monitoring. This can be done using the replication API or the report SRAL_REPLICATION which is based on this API.

The report SRAL_REPLICATION replicates RAL data from the RAW database table to the expanded database table. The report can read the data either from the local system/client or from a remote system/client via RFC connection. The report has to be used in the target system and replicated data is RAL data is always written locally.

Features

Selection

  • Select all log data older than
The report selects all log data with a creation date older than the selected time range. Possible values are
  • 4 hours

  • One day

  • One week

  • One month (30 days)

  • Free selection

With the first four options, the time range is relative to the execution time of SRAL_REPLICATION. E.g.: the current time is 16:24:52. If option "4 hours" is selected, all log data created before 12:24:52 will be replicated.
With "Free selection" all log data created before the specified "Date" and "Time" will be replicated.
  • Advanced selection criteria
Additional to the creation date of the log data the selection can be restricted via a list of
  • Username

  • Purpose

  • Data Source
  • Local system: Read log data from the local system/client.

  • Remote system: Read log data from a remote system/client via the specified RFC destination.

  • Delete source entries after successful replication
After a package of log data has been written to the expanded database table in the local system/client, this package of log data is always deleted in the source system/client. In a future version of this tool, it will be possibly allowed to replicate data even without deletion. In case the replication without deletion is required yet, you can use the underlying Replication API IF_SRAL_REPLICATION for doing so.
  • Advanced options
  • Package size: Reading the source data is done in packages. This parameter defines the number of entries in one package. Default value is 5.000.

  • Overwrite central log entries: In case the deletion of the source data fails (e.g. due to RFC connection problems) the same data will be read again after a restart of the report. In this case the insert into the expanded database table will fail, because the data is already written to database. If the checkbox is marked, all existing data will be overwritten. However the overwrite modus will take a little bit more time instead of inserting the data only.
