SAP E-Book

Purpose

This program is used to import content from time zone database tables (provided by SAP in a file) into the system.

Integration

The definitions of time zones and the rules for starting and ending daylight saving time are used in SAP applications to determine and convert local times.

Prerequisites

You have downloaded the file containing the time zone information to your front-end computer. This file is usually called TZDATA.DAT and is in the attachment of SAP Note 198411. The file is an ASCII file and is provided in a fixed SAP format.

Features

Selection

The program requires two input parameters:

1. A path to the file containing the time zone content. You can use F4 on your front end to select thie file.

2. A checkbox specifying that daylight saving rule entries not in the file are deleted. For details, see below.

Standard Variants

Output

The program first displays a list of database entries that can be created, modified, or deleted. The entries are saved in a second step. The program cannot be exited before this.

Activities

The program loads the specified file into the memory and synchronizes its content with the entries already in the database. These entries are in the database tables for time zone definitions) (TTZZ, ...), daylight saving time rules, (TTZR, ...), and the assignments of countries or countries/regions to time zones (TTZ5 and TTZ5S).

The following applies to the time zone definitions and daylight saving time definitions: File content that is not in the database is created in the database. File content that does not match the current database content overwrites the database content. Database content that is not in the file is not modified.

The following applies to the variable and fixed start and end rules for daylight saving time (tables TTZDV and TTZDF): File content that is not in the database is created in the database. File content that does not match the current database content overwrites the database content. Database content that is not in the file is deleted if the corresponding checkbox on the selection screen is not selected. If it is not selected, the database content is preserved. Note that preserving additional rules by deselecting the checkbox is only relevant in special cases. Generally, the variable and fixed start and end rules delivered by SAP provide full and correct times for changing clocks. Any additional entries can produced incorrect conversions.

The following applies to the assignments of time zones to countries (TTZ5) and to combinations of countries/regions (TTZ5S): No assignments are saved in which the country or combination of country/region do not exist in the respective master data table (T005 or T005S). This means you should make sure that the list of countries and countries/regions is up-to-date in your system before you import the time zone data. Refer to SAP Note 1164216.

The new, modified, and deleted database entries are collected in a transport request for imports into follow-on systems.
