Use

Using the Optimizer profile you can set the optimization method and activate the restrictions that the SNP should take into account in its calculations. The activities are described below that you should carry out to maintain the Optimizer profile.

Note: You can find additional information about the individual fields of the profile in the field help when you call up the Optimizer profile in customizing or in the current settings.

Activities

  1. Enter a profile description.
  2. Set the Aim of Optimization, i.e. minimizing costs or maximizing profits.
  3. If you would like to use a purely continual (linear) solution procedure, set a Method for Linear Programming.
  4. If you want to use Time Decomposition or Product Decomposition, activate the relevant indicator and set the window size or partition.
  5. Set a hard (strict) or cost based Prioritizing, in order to indicate whether the Optimizer should take into account the priority of the requirement (hard prioritizing) or costs as the determining factor for the calculation of the optimal solution. Hard prioritizing can not be used in connection with the discretization method (see below).
  6. Set how the Optimizer should take into account Secondary Requirements and Distribution Requirements, either as hard or soft restrictions, that can cause penalty costs.
  7. Set a Discretization Method in place of a linear solution procedure if the Optimizer should take into account certain restrictions which require a discretization such as, for example, the minimum lot sizes for shipping or the Production Process Model (PPM). The discretization method determines the quality of the solution on the basis of the level of thoroughness of the search procedure. The more thorough the search, the longer is needed by the Optimizer to determine a solution.
  8. Activate the corresponding general restrictions such as, for example, restrictions of the production, storage or transport capacity and, if necessary, the restrictions that should only be taken into account when a discretization method is chosen. For the restrictions for a discretization you can also set the time period over which the restriction should be taken into account (days, weeks or months as well as a fixed end date).
  9. If you choose Partial Search as discretization method you should also set the Rounding Limit for the Production Variable or Transport Variable to indicate where the Optimizer should search first in order to assign the continual values of the relaxed solution to the correct values in whole numbers. You can differentiate between the preferred strategy for the production lot sizes and the preferred strategy for the transport lot sizes.
  10. If you choose a Complete Search you should also set the restrictions for the Run Time and/or the Maximum Number of Iterations.
  11. Set a Rounding Profile to indicate when the products are expected to be available. Smaller values represent an optimistic view as they imply that the product will be available earlier that expected. Larger values represent a conservative view as they imply that the availability of the product is guaranteed.
  12. If you wish to carry out Vertical or Horizontal Aggregated Planning you should activate the relevant indicator.
  13. Save.
