Functionality

Changing an existing article hierarchy

You can use the BAPI BAPI_WRF_MATGRP_CHANGE to change or delete an existing article hierarchy or to add substructures. The functionality applies for the hierarchy, the language-dependent texts, and the articles.

You use the HIERARCHY_DATA parameter to transfer data for identifying a header record of an article hierarchy. This is the hierarchy ID and the nodes. In addition, you must set the CHANGE indicator for each data record to control the functionality of the BAPI. The indicator can have the value Update, Delete, or Insert.

The required information is transferred using the following tables: DESCRIPTION_HIERARCHY, HIERARCHY_STRUCTURE, DESCRIPTION_STRUCTURE, and HIERARCHY_ITEMS. The BAPI can execute its function only if no error messages were created in the Return table. This is the case if the header data and all items were processed without errors.

The HIERARCHY_ITEMS structure contains the import parameter NO_REFERENCE_HANDLING that you can use to control whether the header data of the generic article is passed on to the variants. If the parameter is set, the header data is not passed on to the variants. By default, the parameter is not set.

The Test Run parameter is used to check the structure before actually creating the hierarchy in the database. The system just simulates creating the hierarchy and the data is not updated (written).

Example

  • New assignments are created with the current date.
  • If an assignment is moved (as scheduled), you must enter both the old and the new parent node in the HIERARCHY_STRUCTURE table.

Notes

If the number is assigned by the system using an internal number range interval, the node numbers entered in the HIERARCHY_STRUCTURE table are replaced by a sequential internal number and created.

Further information

HIERARCHY_STRUCTURE are replaced and created by a sequential internal number.
