A status change to an IDoc is carried out using the function module 'EDI_DOCUMENT_STATUS_SET'. Status changes are allowed for IDocs that were opened with the function module 'EDI_DOCUMENT_OPEN_FOR_PROCESS' or with 'EDI_DOCUMENT_OPEN_FOR_CREATE'.

One or more status changes can be carried out. In 'PROCESS' mode, the function module 'EDI_DOCUMENT_CLOSE_PROCESS' checks that at least one status change has been carried out for a document.
