Functionality

In Customizing, you can define a liability category in posting area 1251 (see Implementation Guide for Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable under Integration -> Financial Supply Chain Management -> Credit Management -> Define Specifications for Credit Management).

In event 4502 you can determine a liability category that is different to this Customizing for an open item.

In SAP Credit Management, the liability category differentiates between different liabilities, such as open items and orders that have not been billed yet.
