Functionality

You use this function to generate the I/O materials formula view from the I/O substances view. If data has already been entered in the formula for this view, you can overwrite it if required.

Material Determination

While generating, the system creates a material item with the same item number for each substance item. The material item receives the material number that has been assigned to the substance in the specification database.

If several materials have been assigned to a substance, you select a leading material for which the item is created. If required, you can create group items without item numbers for the other materials. They serve information purposes only and are marked accordingly in the formula.

If no material has been assigned to a substance, a system message is written to the application log. The item is not created on the I/O materials view.

Material Quantity Determination

For the function to be able to determine the target quantities of the material items along with the upper and lower limits of the item quantity, the following requirements must be met:

  • The base unit of measure of the materials found or a unit of the same dimension must be allowed on the I/O materials view (see Customizing for Formulas).
  • If you entered absolute quantities on the I/O substances view, the unit of the substance items must have the same dimension as the base unit of measure of the relevant material.
  • If you entered the substance quantities as proportions of the base quantity (for example, in unit %), the base unit of measure of the relevant material must have the same dimension as the base unit of measure for the formula.

The substance quantities are converted as follows:

  • If the unit of a substance item is allowed on the I/O materials view, the quantity and unit are transferred without changes.
  • If this is not the case, absolute quantities are converted into an allowed unit of the same dimension.
Substances that you entered as proportions of the base quantity are converted into absolute quantities and are assigned the base unit of measure or an allowed unit of the same dimension.

If errors occur while converting (for example, because the above requirements are not met), the material item is created without a quantity.

Other Data

All other item data is transferred from the relevant substance item without any changes.

Application Log

All system messages triggered during generation are collected in the application log for the formula. It informs you, for example, about errors that occurred during quantity conversion.

Example

Notes

The I/O materials and I/O substances formula views continue to be linked to each other after the generation. You can enter new items on each view or change item quantities without affecting the other view, but when you delete an item affected by generation, the changes take effect in both views.
