Functionality

This function module creates an admission request for a specific program. Technically speaking, the function module creates a new study object as an instance of the program (if the student is registering for this program for the first time). It also creates a relationship between the student and the object study, and between the object study and the program. The function module creates the relationship between the student and the program containing the request data in the status planned.

The function module reads the required data from the XML document of the request. Then it checks if the formal prerequisites for request creation are satisfied, i.e. if at least a student, a program, and an academic year are available. If the outcome of this check is positive, the function module determines the validity of the request based on the specified academic year and academic session (optional), and on the academic calendar assigned (directly or indirectly) to the program. If the validity can be determined, the request is created as described above. If the outcome of the check is negative or if the validity cannot be determined, the system exits the function module and outputs an error message.

Notes

This function module can be called (successfully) only once per request as a request for admission to a specific program can be created only once per student. The function module therefore checks if an admission request has already been created for the program in question. If it has, the system immediately exits the function module and outputs an error message.
