| This parameter controls the size of the password history. |
| The password history is evaluated when a user chooses a new |
| password: the system rejects the (re)use of passwords that are |
| stored in the password history. |

| This prevents users effectively being able to override the |
| for regular password changes. |
| |
| Only passwords that have been chosen by the user (in the context of |
| a previous password change) are stored in the password history. |
| Passwords assigned by the administrator are not stored in the |
| history. When the administrator sets passwords, the system does not |
| perform a check to see whether the new password to be set was |
| previously used by the user; otherwise, it would be possible that |
| the administrator would obtain knowledge about the user's old |
| password in this way. |
